We have made it home now. The doctors took the pressure test of the left eye and it was definitely within the normal pressure range, if not on the lower end. That is good news! The docs are not concerned that it is low though cause as she goes off the eye drops and so forth, it will increase slightly into the ideal pressure range. Yeah!!!
There was no sign of infection at all, the cornea that was cloudy before because of the high pressure is clear, and if all continues to heal like it has been, she will be a okay in the left eye!
They did not continue forward with the right eye surgery today though cause the doc was not convinced that she could see adequately out of the left eye to be able to navigate her surroundings sufficiently. It is amazing how the human brain can do things to adapt. When we tested her vision in the left eye, we covered the right eye, which has always been her dominate eye, and though she never had done it before, she started doing the adaptive things that blind people do... stick the hand out in front so that they don't run into things.... follow the sounds around her to orient herself in the room....
So, we were sent home to heal some more. Dr. Hunter said that his people will call our people and sent up the next appointment. He also gave us the day off! We don't have to go see him tomorrow! Now I don't know what to do with myself. Guess we will have to go play at the playground or something.
We had a chance to talk a little more long term with Doctor Hunter too. He said that the eye is like a balloon in that when the pressure is greater in kids, it makes the eye size grow, but it doesn't contract when the pressure is relieved. So she will always have larger eyes. We also talked about the fact that she has a lazy eye. Dr. Hunter said that it was caused by the fact that the left eye was worse than the right eye so it stopped using the information coming in from the left eye in favor of the right eye. So how do we trick the brain into using the left eye info again??? we patch the right eye till it figures out that the left eye provides valid info. Otherwise it will continue to wander. Wonderful.
Here's a laugh for you... congenital Glaucoma in the Latin or Greek or whatever language it is the doctors use (all the doctor lingo is Greek to me), actually translates to cows eyes, cause it causes the human eye to grow so significantly larger, to the relative size of a cows.

We are both so happy to hear that the left eye did not need more surgery. Enjoy your days off. Jackie and Jim
