Goodbye

Our limited Time

Our bodies are limited, physically, in what they can do and how long they can continue to do it. Please keep Mike's mom and the family in your thoughts as it seems her body is getting pretty close to giving up.

It is in times like these when one stops to reflect on death. There is no way to sugar coat it, no way to get around dealing with it. I haven't seen a lot of it, but I have seen three different ways of viewing it. The first is the person who refuses to give up, that just keeps working, moving, being active. These are the people that refuse to say it is over, it is done- there are still things to do, people to see, health problems just are a minor inconvenience. Then there is the person who finds life so meaningless that they lay down and wait for death to come knocking, so that they don't have to deal with life anymore. There is no more goals to accomplish, they are no longer feel needed. Then there is the third group. The ones that do not fear death, but don't give up either. The ones that quietly accept it as a part of life, knowing it is inevitable that the body must give up. They spend the time they have, even in their physically lacking state still ministering to the hearts and minds of those around them. My grandparents were in this last group. They quietly accepted it for what it is and intentionally worked to find ways to make it easier for the family to accept.

Mike's mom, however, falls in the second category. She has been telling Mike since I originally met her eight years ago that she probably wouldn't make it through till the next visit. This time it sounds like she may actually be right.

Which category do you fall into?

Out of Sorts

So I have been really out of it lately. Ever since Buffer died, I haven't had the desire to do much, or do anything really. Emotionally I am drained, and just not coping well. I don't think Mike ever knew how deep it went with Buffer and I - I am not even sure if I knew.

The desire to cuddle and hug a dog like Buffer is really, really great though, and this morning I took the girls to the st johns county dog pound and browsed. We met a little guy named Max who was very sweet, almost too timid for a family with rowdy little girls. He was already eight though (so more than full grown) and looked to weigh about ten pounds. He also seemed to possibly have more health issues than what met the eye (he walked funny on some surfaces- possible hip problems) but was owner surrendered so he has that going for him. He will make another family with older kids or a single woman a very good dog.

So our search continues. I found two or three dogs over the Internet that seemed like maybe they would make a good fit. A white poodle out of a Jacksonville dog rescue, and (one or two) beige poodle mix(es) from Coastal Poodle Rescue. (I couldn't tell if the beige poodle was listed twice or if the dogs were litter mates.) All are twenty pounds or under, and younger than Max.

I didn't think I would ever get another dog after Buffy, but I find I still need one, though Buffy was seventeen years old and had long outlived his other brothers. I am aware that another dog can never fill Buffers paws, cause he was way too good of a dog to be able to be replaced that easily. Having a young pup in the house though would be a nice treat.

Besides, this Dusty dog needs a young whippersnapper to torment her just like she did to the Old Man Buffer!

Another Goodbye

As we still wait for Zoe to arrive, we are sad to have to say goodbye to Mike's Aunt Edith. She passed away last night around 10 pm. She leaves behind one son and two grandchildren. She was a very sweet woman, who cared deeply for those in her life that were blessed to know her.

Goodbye.

Grandma Yaya, my mother's mother, passed away this morning after several years of fighting Alzheimer's disease. She was the last of the grandparents on my side of the family tree, and will be missed. She leaves behind two daughters and their husbands, 4 grandchildren and their wives/husbands, and 5 great-grandchildren. May she finally be at peace.
