Zoe solids already....almost

So I have been posting mostly about Savannah's school stuff, but I thought I would do a post about Zoe... well sort of anyways.

She is coming up almost 4 months old, which is when you can technically start solid food suplementing. I am not sure we are actually going to start solids, but I am at least thinking about it.

...and thinking that I am going to try homemade baby food.

I hear that it is the easiest thing to do, and that it can be easily frozen if a big batch is required or several small batches worth if it is going to be fresh.

So here is the thing. I want to know how many of you guys out there are baby food makers.... any hints for the unexperienced?

You can use a food processor or a hand chopper to make your baby food as pureed as you want. I can loan you mine if you want to try it. Just let me know!

Making your own baby food is easy. I made all my kids' food. They never had the store version. You can tackle it two ways, fresh or frozen. I used mainly the frozen approach. I would just cook say carrots, mash them in the blender (a food processor is better but there was no such thing back then), pour the puree in ice cube trays and freeze them. Once frozen I'd pop them out, put the cubes in a bag and label it. Then whenever I wanted one, I'd just pull out a cube. I used to have a little three-section heating dish and would just put a different cube n each one, it'd heat it up and I'd feed them a three-course meal. Of course, just starting out, you want to try only one new food a week. Works the same for meats. Just add a little broth you cooked the meat in to the blender. This works well if you're traveling, too. Just pop a cube in a plastic container and by the time you get there, it's defrosted and edible. I liked the frozen way because I could make lots ahead of time and not have to be making it fresh every time, but fresh is good too -just puree and serve!
