The gift of receiving and the art of scheduling medical appointments

Right before Zoe was born, I read the book 90 Minutes in Heaven. I even did a post about it. The biggest lesson I learned was that in moments of hard times in life, the gift of receiving help is just as important as the giving help when you are well.

We are stretching our receiving muscle right now, as Mike is currently not doing too well, and we have to say a big thank you. Our church, has once again taken their loving arms and wrapped them around our family. We couldn't be more thankful. We have had several meals brought over, the yard is being taken care of for a few weeks, and lots of help with the girls so I can take Mike to doctors and so forth. There has even been offers for house cleaning, though our house is so small the day to day stuff keeps it pretty much in order.

Today we spent most of the day in the ER, as I mentioned in an earlier post. The doctors did an ultrasound to determine if there was a bloodclot, one of the more common aftereffects of this type of surgery. The docs determined that no there was no bloodclot, but did change the pain meds and antibiotics as it seemed Mike was having problems with neither being strong enough.

Tomorrow, I will be back at the doctors office, this time with Savannah. She has been getting eye ultrasounds on a regular basis since her cataract surgery. Tomorrow I probably will find out if she is going to be a canidate for further eye surgery in September. There is concern that the retina might need repair, which is only repairable through surgery.

Tuesday I am back at the docs again with Mike for his first post surgical scheduled visit.

Though I know it will not be the last visit to a doctors office for the week, I would be fine not seeing another doctor for a while.....actually, it isn't the doctors I mind, its the completely uncomfortable waiting rooms and the bad news that they are notorious for.... (If it is this bad already at doctors offices and ER's, just wait, if Obama has his way....)

Since our vacation was cancelled due to Mike's fall, the following Monday I will probably find myself with Savannah at Wolfsons. She was due for a pressure check which was postponed due to being out of town, but might get rescheduled since we are in town.... (I find out Monday if they decide they want to fit her in or not, but I am told the doc had a cancellation for that day).
