I found this hat pattern on a free knitting pattern website and I think it is beautiful but I can't figure out what in the work they are talking about!!!!! What exactly is a butterfly stich??? and yes I have even looked at the tutorials....
So maybe I will do this one instead.....

wow, I read through the instructions, but can't quite get it. Scoop up 5 strands from bottom to top??
If you are up for it I find the best way to handle patterns that seem insanely confusing is to cast on and just give it a go. Sometimes they sort themselves out, sometimes not. But it is a pretty hat, might be worth the effort.
