Mike, Savannah and I went and immersed ourselves in the northern woods for a few days. The family cabin is up near Grand Rapids, on a little lake called Hill Lake. It's closest town is Hill City and there is probably a handful of businesses and a couple of hand fulls of full time residences. We went up in the middle of the week, Tuesday through Friday, and it was pretty quite. By the time we were leaving on Friday morning, it was doubling in occupants. All the full time workers from the big city going up for the weekend getaways.
We went up with Mike's sister and her husband Mike. (Yeah i know it is confusing to have two Mike's in the family.) We had a great time, and I was really sad to see them leave, (they left on the Thursday) cause it got real quite and kinda boring there by ourselves. While they were there though, we spent a full day fishing and caught like 30 fish.
My fishing buddy (My hubby Mike) had to bait my hook though and then take all the fish off cause I was too chicken (I don't like wormy-slimy things) had a hard time fishing himself at one point cause we were catching so many Sunnies. Hmm, come to think of it, that was Mike and I's date time. Uncle Mike and Aunt Maggie had taken midget to the park and to run errands. What a date that was!
We also got to see a lot of wildlife up there in the middle of north woods Minnesota.
We also had ducks for Savannah to watch, and feed, and scare.... Oh she loved to scare those ducks away. Unfortunately, most of the time it was unintentional, overly excited kiddoness that did it, but she didn't care. She would wish them a bye-bye, and then just get so excited when they would come back again later. At one point, she had 9 ducks around her eating the corn out of the mud. A beaver also made an appearance a few times, but never made it close enough to get any pictures or a real good look at him. Mike says he remembers having bears around as a kid, but we never saw one and frankly I couldn't be happier.
The sunsets up at the cabin are just gorgeous. Mike and Savannah caught the sunset most of the nights that we were there. Of course Mom did too, just lagged to take the picture.
So now we are back in Minneapolis, and have been over to pick more veggies from Grandpa Stan's garden and Uncle Clyde took Savannah for a tractor ride (lawnmower type).
Our trip is starting to wind down, we will be headed home again soon. I must say we have had a wonderful time, and that I do miss home but not as much as I have in the past. (Probably cause we came to Minnesota in summer when one can be outside and not freeze to death, you know one of those things that most try to avoid.) I miss my own garden though, and I hear that the sunflowers have been blooming while we were gone, but that they should still be blooming when we get back. The rest of the garden should still be blooming though and I can't wait to see how much it has changed while we were gone. I would rather not have to go back to work though, or die of heat exhaustion and draught, both of which are currently gripping the state of Florida. If only I could live in Minnesota during the Summer and Florida in the winter... hmm, not to practical. Oh well.
Once we get back i will edit the pictures in so that the blog looks better and you can see the full effect of the trip.
Till then, tata. See you back in Florida!
