We just got back from the doctor a little while ago... Okay so we stopped at Grandma and Grandpa's house and had some lunch, then got some meds from Walgreens, but we finally made it home at 1:30ish.
The first surgery is tomorrow, currently scheduled for 11 AM. (As always that really means be there at 9 so that they can do all the prep stuff and ready her for the doctor to actually walk in at 11 AM.)
The doctor described what they are doing to morrow a little more. He compared it to a car tire that has a hole in it. To keep it from deflating there is a pump attached to it that is pumping air (or in the case of the eye, fluid) into one side, while the leak is letting it out on the other side. Well, in a normal eye the in amount is the same as the out amount, but in Savannah's case the in is greater than the out so the fluid has been slowly building in the tire/eye. So tomorrow what they are going to do is make the hole in the tire/eye bigger by trying to thread a suture all the way around the hole and then pulling it back, and if that doesn't work, then just using a special knife to cut a V shaped flap to allow all the fluid to start to drain out. Sounds, like I don't want to know anymore cause I am already squirmy. At least it is all outpatient surgery, with a return to the docs for a checkup the following day.
She leaves with a patch on her eye, which hopefully will disguise enough that I will not faint at the hospital, and then hopefully the next day it will be more or less cleaned up so that it will not make me faint at the doctor's office. He did warn me that there will be some blood that leaks through to the colored part of the eye that will make her eye change colors, from her royal blue, to a green or even black, that will go away as the eye fluid changes (Remember new fluid in, old fluid out). Apparently it can take awhile for it to do that too.
So between now and then, and for who knows how long after that, our world revolves around when was the last time she had eye drops, what time she can eat or drink till, and what time we have to be at the hospital by.
Oh and we found out that the surgery for the other eye is scheduled for Thursday Oct 4th. So a week and a couple days later we will have round number two.
