A Picnic
“Today we are going to go for a long walk to hear Jesus. Everyone ready? Follow me!” (grab a picnic blanket and basket then lead the kids around the room pretending to go through some tall grass or squishy mud, etc. Finally come to a place where you can spread out the picnic blanket and invite everyone to sit down with you.) “Whew, I am tired that was a long journey. We travelled a long way through tall grass and squishy mud (or whatever the class pretended) and now I am hungry. Are you hungry too? You should be. Let’s see what kind of food I brought for our picnic.” (keeping the rest hidden, pull one thing out at a time. There are food and non-food items mixed together so ask each time if it is something you can eat at a picnic or, if not what it is used for. When done, ask the kids if there is anything else they like to take on a picnic with them when they go. If there is more time, ask what they would do if they went on a picnic and forgot the picnic basket at home on the table.)
Craft – In Jesus’ hands
Remind the children how in the story the one little child brought to Jesus what little He had (five loaves and two fish) and how Jesus prayed and fed so many people. Pass out one sheet of people and let the kids color the people with hair and so forth (or scribble). When the kids are done coloring the faces pass out a pair of hands (reduced on copier to 25%) for them to glue onto their picture. Add a sticker with the five loaves and two fish to place in the hands. Add the “The little we bring, Jesus’ can multiply.” sticker.
