Savannah's Eyes

So I did a little research and the condition that they are testing for is primary congenital glaucoma. According to the website I found, there is only .05% of babies born that ever have to be tested for it. The outcome, if caught early enough and surgery done (only treatment available) as soon as possible, is that the damage is only as bad as 20/50 vision loss, but can be as bad as future loss of vision or extreme low vision or necessity of transplant cornea. Optimal time to catch it is pre-8 months, but that the symptoms may progress slower than that making it found later. However, they believe that around ten percent of the students at the blind schools were or should have been diagnosed with this. Chances are by watching Savannah and her ability to navigate her surroundings so normally and if they are able to correct it sufficiently now, there will be little damage and extreme measures will be something we will never have to deal with.

The main thing is that we are getting the help we need now, before it has a chance to get any worse. Though emotionally I have a few breakdowns, I know that it is a God thing and only a God thing. He controls the entire health of her eyes and there is little I can do to physically heal her. I also know that his timing is perfect, if we had found this at eight months I would have been more of a basket case cause we were dealing with so much already. In the future we will also know that this is something we have to be especially careful to get checked out, cause it could be genetically related.

I also know that we are truly blessed, many are praying for her already, and many have railed around to support our family. From people we know and love, to the staff at Nemours doing what they can to help us through the insurance as best as possible.
