Jesus calms the storm

This week we are going to talk weather!  Texas Space Grant Consortium has a nice pattern for making paper dolls with clothing for every weather. Simply Print, color, cut out, and enjoy.  If using in a class setting like I did, consider printing on card stock or laminating.

two dolls pictured with two clothing pieces.  Other pieces included with pattern at website.

When presenting the paper dolls, we used the following (but I found it somewhere else on the Internet, so feel free to search for your own weather poems instead)

Weather Song
(to the tune of "Bingo")

There was a time when it was hot
And sunny was the weather.
Sun, sun, all around,
Sun, sun, all around,
Sun, sun, all around,
And sunny was the weather.

There was a time when it was cold
And snowy was the weather
Snow, Snow, all around,
Snow, Snow, all around,
Snow, Snow, all around,
And sunny was the weather

There was a time with it was wet
And rainy was the weather.
Rain, Rain, all around,
Rain, Rain, all around,
Rain, Rain, all around,
And Rainy was the weather.

As we went through the verses, we dressed the dolls accordingly.  If the children have a hard time with this activity, consider dressing one doll and have the children copy the outfit on the other doll.

For Craft, we made rain clouds.  Simply search for rain cloud coloring page, print.  Have children color with dark stormy colors (black, purple, blues).  Then turn the cloud over, add a strip of double sided tape along the bottom of the cloud and have children add strips of curling ribbon along the bottom.  Secure with a second layer of regular tape once the ribbons are done being added.  We try to include the bible theme on each craft, so the children then added mailing label stickers with the words "even the winds and waves obey Him" but that is optional.
