Pull out four or five small baby dolls or like items. Have the children hide their eyes while the teacher hides the items/babies around the room. When ready say, “Where is ____(the item/items used). Let’s find them!”
Allow the children to play hide and seek with the items as long as they desire to.
When the game is over say, “wow you guys sure can find lots things that are lost… In our story today we are going to hear about a time when Mary and Joseph lost Jesus and they had to find Him… Do you think they did? Well, you need to wait and find out. First, we are going to sing a song or two.”
Finding Jesus
Glue the square piece of fabric to the piece of paper, but not at the doors. Show the children how to open the door of the church and add Jesus figure inside. Add a cross to the top of the building and Mary and Joseph outside looking for Jesus. If time permits, let children add grass, sky etc with crayons.
Allow kids to add different stickers / items to paper, one of them being a picture of Jesus. Use as an “I Spy” game, ask “where is the…” or "Can you find (Jesus)?"
